Rather it has its own internal clock which plays a major role when it comes to burning calories and losing weight. We burn most calories in the late afternoon and early evening and the least in the very early morning. Most people burn about 10 per cent more calories between 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Our body torches maximum calories at this time frame, regardless of what we do.
It does not matter if you are sleeping, heading back home after work or doing any other work, your body will burn a specific amount of calories at this time. However, the real struggle is when we burn the least amount of calories.
Our body burns fewer calories from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. This is because as per our cardinal rhythm this is resting time and at rest, our body burns minimum calories. But if you eating at this time due to erratic schedule then your body will not burn much calories. It will actually try and store the calories, which can lead to weight gain.

Why does this happen?
The real reason why there are subsequent dips and rise in the calorie-burning is because of the body’s internal clock, which is not necessarily in sync with the external clock. It is important to synchronize our internal clock with the outside world each day. That can be done through exposure to sunlight and eating at the right time during day and fasting during the night.
Eating breakfast is also essential to keep our system in sync. After fasting for the entire night, our body gets energy from breakfast to keep going throughout the day. If you keep eating your breakfast at different times or at times skip it, then it can make your internal rhythms less precise.

Scheduling your exercise:
We do burn most calories in the late afternoon and early evening, but this does not mean you should start exercising at this time to accelerate the calorie-burning process. You may or may not burn the extra amount of calories by exercising at this time of the day.
So, if you are working on a night shift or have an erratic schedule then you might be at the greater risk of weight gain. If trying to lose weight, then try to schedule your day as per your internal body clock. Other than this, avoid eating anything early in the morning. Doing this will also lead to weight gain.
