Schools are going virtual, companies are telling employees to work remotely and people are staying home. The coronavirus, which was declared a pandemic on March 11, means we’ll all be spending way more time inside.
The rapid spread of the virus means more of us will choose — or be forced to — minimize our time outside of the home with a quarantine or extreme social distancing. Have you got permission to ‘work from home? Or are you currently running sick due to the flu or viral infection? If such is the case, then you must have been quarantined at home.
Though being quarantined is the perfect way to protect yourself from contracting the coronavirus but being at home the whole day often leads to unhealthy eating which further leads to weight gain.
Here are a few tips to follow to keep your diet and weight on track, while being quarantined at home.
Avoid unhealthy and continued snacking
A con of being quarantined at home implies you have more idle time at home. You get to lay your hands on all types of snacks and cravings get in your way. This leads to binging of unhealthy snacks which are not even required.
Watch what you eat and avoid snacking at any cost. Eat fruits and nuts to satiate the hunger pangs instead.

Take out time to exercise
Another merit of being quarantined at home is that you coordinate your diet and workout together. For those who blame their busy work schedule to be the reason behind their neglected health, this is the ideal time for you. Strike a balance between your diet and workout and switch your lifestyle to a healthier one.

Stock not ‘hoard’
As far as your meals and daily diet is concerned, you must make sure you have enough sustained for days. Plan ahead and buy sufficient things from the market. This is to prevent frequent trips to the market, which will further prevent you from being exposed to COVID-19.
In the process, ensure that you stock items for yourself and don’t hoard them unnecessarily. Buying things which are more than required will create a shortage in the market and will give rise to more serious problems.

Do not eat on your bed
Make it a habit to always eat on the dining table. Eating while sitting on the bed is probably one of the worst habits of all. Eating on bed makes it a potential background for bacteria and germs to increase in number. Keeping bed clean is another task as a crumb or two will always fall down.
Eating on bed is also linked with disruptive sleep patterns. Lack of sleep leads to storage to fats around your body, ultimately making you fat and unhealthy.
